What Is Pilates?

Pilates is a mental and physical body conditioning programme which aims to change the way in which we move.

Developed by Joseph Pilates in the early 20th Century, Pilates targets the deep postural muscles, working the body from the inside out. Pilates strengthens the body, improves posture, core stability and flexibility, and helps to relieve stress.

Taught in a slow controlled way encouraging good movement skills, the exercises can be built upon as strength and flexibility improves.

Who Does Pilates?

Pilates is for everyone. Lauri welcomes a whole range of people to her classes, be they male or female, young or old, injured or fit. It is particularly beneficial for those with a back problem or injury but Pilates is just as effective as a workout – especially as the movements become more advanced. Pre and post natal clients also benefit from Pilates.
